Vain and Proper

Princess Fionnuala is a perfect example of vanity, constantly on the lookout for something to reflect herself in; the only time she’s ever self-conscious about her looks is when she is near her younger and paler sister. Fionn does however think that she is the most beautiful princess in all of Glenmore, which obviously is true. She is incredibly proper, not allowing herself to ever have a hair out of place in her flowing mane nor a speck of dust on her golden coat. She believes strongly in always moving gracefully and always looking your best, firmly teaching this to her female offspring.

Manipulative and Cunning

Fionnuala certainly seems like the ideal princess from the outside, but inside is a different story. She enjoys using her daughters as pawns in the royal society, striving to raise them as perfect and proper as she possibly can so that they’ll be valued highly. Princess Fionnuala is always thinking, always listening; one should be careful when telling her their secrets or whispering in her presence. If Fionn hears something that defiles royal bloodlines she might just let her tongue slip in the right company. 

Traditionalist

The golden doe has been raised since birth to believe in the traditional values of Glenmore society, firmly keeping to her soft-spoken, graceful princess-act without fail. She can be hard and cold when scolding one of her children, yes, but she always reverts back to her perfect self directly afterwards. Fionnuala believes that a doe should be submissive to her stag and that commoners are only there to green the grass and serve the royals. She took pride in standing behind King Ragnar, supporting his decisions and serving him and her betrothed, but though she would never admit it she thinks Drustan is a weak and unworthy king despite Ragnar’s choice to name him the Crowned Prince. A strong king should not create councils filled with commoner weeds.

Appearance:  Fionnuala would be hard to mistake as anything but a princess. Her long flowing mane is always perfect, shining in the sunlight as its silvery quality reflects it in combination with her magic, and her golden coat is always shined and proper. Her mane is sometimes tied and braided with fresh flowers (she prefers roses) and she’s always perfumed with violets to please her Lord Owain as it is his favourite flower.  Behind long, white eyelashes hides two disapproving brown eyes, silently judging you. The eyes are the only way for you to see the princess true nature, but that is only if you stare long enough and she simply won’t allow it.

History: Princess Fionnuala was born a healthy baby princess by the great oak. The first child of her mother Fenella the First, she was pampered and loved by her mother and father, protected from the world outside of royal society. Fionn was raised from her first steps to be a proper princess, having a great deal of difficulty containing her curiosity the first year of her life.

Soon she began to understand how she was supposed to act though, even helping her mother to raise her little sister Inuala by being her babysitter even at three years of age. She took great pride in being the eldest and enjoyed the praise given to her by her doting mother. Fenella the First was very strict however, something that affected the way that the young princess would raise her own children further down the line.

At the age of five Fionnuala was ready to be betrothed to a royal stag, hoping that she’d be promised to the king or a handsome prince, she was incredibly disappointed when she was told that Lord Owain, being a golden colour with darker points, was her mate. The princess didn’t protest simply out of duty but her pride was hurt and she would act distant towards the poor lord for a few years, always doing what he said but never smiling. Owain treated her very well however, never giving up in trying to reach his betrothed, and as he brought her flowers to win her favour one rut she cracked and smiled. Not long after their first daughter Nuala was born; Fionnuala felt true happiness when she looked down at the sleeping fawn and she knew that while pale, Owain was a good and strong father.

The birth of her and Owain’s next daughter BoÁnn initially went smooth, Fionn handled the birth well and could feed her young, though the happiness was short-lived as Fenella; Fionnuala’s mother passed away shortly after birthing a fawn of her own. The golden princess was devastated, having held her mother so dearly she agreed to take her new little sister in as an adoptive daughter. Hard as it was to take care of the fawn that according to Fionn took her mother’s life, she was praised for it, and for how good and charitable she was.

Relationships

Lord Owain | Stag | Royal (Betrothed, Alive)

Fionnuala’s relationship with her betrothed is a strange mix of love and duty. Since Fionn doesn’t know what love is she has always had a hard time deciding whether she feels something for the buckskin lord, but he is good to her – maybe out of duty more than actual emotion, or maybe out of love. Fionn can’t tell the difference. She was at first very displeased over having been betrothed to such a pale stag, but her view of Owain has softened over the years. Despite her mixed feelings she’s always faithful to her mate.

With recent events concerning their daughters, Fionnuala has found a deep love towards Owain. She would never leave his side nor betray him, and will defend him with teeth and claw if anyone dares insult him. She has become very nurturing towards her betrothed, and tends to his sadness like it's a wounds that needs treating.

Nuala | Doe | Princess Doe (Firstborn daughter, Alive)

Nuala has always managed to bring out the strongest of emotions from Fionnuala’s otherwise proper and calm demeanour. Her daughter is a source of jealousy and shame for the golden princess, having birthed the traitorous Nuala is a source of constant pain for Fionn, even though deep inside she still loves her firstborn.

BoAnn | Doe | Princess (Daughter, Alive)

Fionn feels pride with just a hint of jealousy towards Bo. She is pleased that her second daughter isn’t the catastrophy that her older sister is, and enjoys the influence achieved with Bo being betrothed to the king. BoÁnn is her crown-jewel, and while she never speaks of Nuala, she will happily tell anyone about her beautiful Bo. Fionnuala now refuses to speak of Bó at all. She is a source of shame just as much as Nuala, and she doesn't understand why her previously beloved daughter would abandon her parents like that.

Fenella the Fair | Doe | Princess Doe (Sister/Adoptive daughter, Alive)

Fionnuala has always been incredibly jealous of her younger sister, being blessed with a paler, more beautiful coat than her and then being betrothed to the king himself. She does however count the betrothal as an achievement on her own side, having been the one to properly raise Fenella while making sure that she was taught by the most graceful princesses. In some rare moments she views her sister as one of her daughters, almost replacing Nuala; though she firmly stands by the fact that her sister should call her by name and not “Mother”. Fenella is worth less than dirt to Fionnuala. According to her Fenella is a disgrace to their mother's name. Like Bó she refuses to speak of her.
